We’re looking for a Director, Research to help shape our all-in-one privacy solution and join our mission to show the world that protecting your privacy online can be simple.


The Opportunity


In this role, you'll act as both a champion for the voice of our users and a strategic business partner to internal leaders, helping shape their long-term vision for our brand and products. You will be responsible for developing, running, and analyzing primarily quantitative studies to monitor and improve our product experience and user acquisition funnel. You'll leverage primary data as a strategic asset, consolidating insights from market research, forecasting, and competitive intelligence to deliver insights that will empower informed decision-making across the business.


You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional team members across DuckDuckGo, from Designers to Engineers and Product Managers, and conduct deep research to explore new products, measure brand metrics, and better understand users at all stages of the journey.


You will also lead and mentor User Insights team members at various levels through coaching, knowledge sharing, and identifying ways to elevate research projects. You'll level-up the quality of the team's throughput while cultivating a culture of curiosity, insight generation, and evidence-based analytical thinking.


What You Will Bring to DuckDuckGo

  1. 10+ years of practical experience conducting research
  2. 5+ years in a direct people management role and experience supporting the career growth of multiple researchers across broad initiatives
  3. Ability to identify research gaps and solutions for future growth and scale within the org, including system, product, function, partnership, culture and/or organization opportunities
  4. Experience managing various quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  5. Advanced experience with survey programming platforms (e.g., Forsta, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey), and data analysis and reporting software (e.g., Q Research Software, SPSS, Excel, Tableau).
  6. Experience with technical/programming skills, including SQL and Python
  7. Confidence in managing all aspects of the quantitative research process, from research design, questionnaire design, pre-field activities, monitoring field and project status, analysis, and interpretation of results through the preparation and delivery of actionable findings
  8. Excellence in research design and applied statistics, including sampling approaches, experiments, data mining, and modeling
  9. Ability to translate research into actionable insights that impact company objectives and provide strategic guidance at all levels (e.g. product, project, etc.)
  10. Ability to consider factors beyond your immediate team to innovate, take appropriate risks, and balance short, medium, and long-term needs
  11. Experience with consumer products, consumer insights, or product development preferred
  12. Experience in applied research areas such as media consumption, consumer behavior, or marketing effectiveness preferred

Compensation

Annual compensation: $220,000 USD and stock options. Compensation is the same within a professional level, regardless of geographic location or functional area, and the compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization.
