Job Description

🇬🇧🇺🇸 While English is our working language at Didask, at the moment we require professional proficiency in both English and French.

About Didask

Didask is a SaaS e-learning solution that enables all organizations to quickly create, deliver, and administer truly effective online training. It is the first platform on the market to develop an AI based on cognitive science.

Our GenAI is specifically designed to address the unique challenges of learning and training, ensuring innovative and scientifically grounded results.

Developed by Didask researchers, it assists:

  • trainers in designing their courses by automatically transforming their expert content into interactive and didactic eLearning;

  • learners by personalizing the experience for each individual, providing tailored feedback and coaching throughout their learning journey.

As a French EdTech company, Didask was founded by researchers from École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris, driven by a passion for education and pedagogy. Since late 2021, we have been supported by a European investment fund that drives our growth and ambitious development projects.
In may 2025, we've secured a 10M€ fundraising to keep investing on our AI powered product and accelerate our growth in France and in Europe 🚀

As a Platform Engineer at Didask, you'll join our infrastructure team as a key contributor as we scale from startup to scale-up. Your mission: help build and maintain the technical foundations that enable our engineering teams to move fast while keeping our platform reliable, secure, and scalable.

This role combines deep infrastructure expertise with strong software engineering skills and a pragmatic, product-minded approach. You'll work as part of a small “Foundations” crew, collaborating closely with product crews to ensure our systems support their ambitious roadmap while maintaining the reliability and security our enterprise customers expect.

Roles and responsibilities

Infrastructure & Platform

  • Contribute to our infrastructure evolution as we scale. Continue improving our Kubernetes setup (Qovery/Scaleway), optimizing for reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.

  • Help design and maintain our deployment pipelines, making it safe and easy for engineers to ship changes multiple times per day.

  • Build and evolve platform tools and abstractions, creating a "pit of success" for product engineers while maintaining flexibility for complex use cases.

  • Improve developer experience, ensuring engineers can easily work in environments that closely mirror production.

Reliability & Observability

  • Enhance our approach to system reliability, from monitoring and alerting to incident response and post-mortems, including leveraging SIEM/SOAR platforms to improve detection, correlation, and automated response. Make problems visible before they impact users.

  • Strengthen observability across our stack (metrics, logs, traces), enabling engineers to understand system behavior and debug issues efficiently.

  • Work with product crews to establish and maintain SLOs/SLIs that balance business needs with engineering constraints.

Security & Compliance

  • Work closely with our Security & Compliance Lead to implement and maintain security controls across our infrastructure, from access management to data protection, in order to satisfy enterprise security requirements and comply with ISO 27001 and SOC II frameworks.

  • Build security practices into our development workflow, making security and privacy by design choices the natural path.

Investigation & Problem-Solving

  • Dive deep into technical issues when they arise, following the trail wherever it leads in our codebase. This means being comfortable investigating across the full stack: infrastructure, backend systems (Node.js, MongoDB) and front-end code when needed. You don’t need to be an expert in every layer, but you're curious and willing to dig in wherever the problem takes you.

  • Participate in architectural decisions, bringing infrastructure perspective to product discussions while understanding product constraints.

  • Help shape our technical strategy, identifying opportunities to simplify or modernize based on actual needs rather than theoretical concerns.

Operational Excellence

  • Optimize our resource usage and costs as we scale, finding the right balance between performance, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Help maintain and improve our disaster recovery capabilities, ensuring we can handle failures gracefully.

  • Build automation that eliminates toil and manual processes, freeing up engineering time for higher-impact work.

Your profile

We're looking for someone with solid infrastructure expertise who thrives in our product-focused, distributed-ownership culture and has the mindset to grow with us as we scale.

Technical foundation

  • Strong experience with production infrastructure, virtualization, containerization (Docker) and DevOps/SRE practices, ideally in B2B SaaS scale-ups. Experience evaluating and implementing Infrastructure as Code is a strong plus.

  • Solid grasp of Kubernetes concepts and operations to operate an abstraction layer (Qovery) while understanding what's happening beneath, and troubleshoot issues at the platform level when needed.

  • Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, or Scaleway). You understand cloud infrastructure fundamentals and can navigate different provider ecosystems.

  • Solid experience with Node.js and MongoDB (or similar stack). You're comfortable in backend codebases and can debug production issues effectively.

  • Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog, Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar platforms.

  • Understanding of security best practices and common vulnerabilities. Experience with security controls in development and production. Familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO 27001 or SOC II is a plus.

Mindset and approach

  • Strong learning ability: You're comfortable picking up new tools and diving into unfamiliar parts of the system. You don't need to know everything upfront, but you figure things out systematically.

  • No artificial boundaries: You follow problems wherever they lead in the stack. While you might specialize in infrastructure and backend, you don't stop investigating when the trail goes elsewhere.

  • Sense of ownership: You have a holistic approach to problem-solving. You make decisions after collecting relevant input, even without clear consensus, and take accountability for them.

  • Product thinking: You think beyond technical challenges to understand the business context and user needs. You identify trade-offs, surface edge cases, and look for opportunities to solve problems more efficiently than originally specified.

  • Pragmatic over perfect: You favor proven solutions and build for actual needs rather than anticipated scale. You know when to invest in robustness and when to ship quickly.

Culture fit

Before applying, we strongly encourage you to read our blog post: Building an Inclusive Culture of Distributed Ownership.

  • Written communication: You excel in our written-first, async environment. You welcome feedback and challenges. You express your point of view clearly, without antagonizing others, moving conversations toward conclusions.

  • Team spirit: You align yourself with the company's mission, strategy, and culture. You're operationally flexible and adapt to evolving environments. People enjoy working with you—you have positive energy, help others beyond your direct responsibilities, and value good team relationships.

  • Transparency and collaboration: You thrive in environments with radical transparency and distributed ownership. You participate actively in public discussions with well-reasoned arguments.

  • Passion for the mission: You're excited about using technology to solve real problems in education and training. You're aware of developments in areas like GenAI and know how to leverage them effectively.

Interview process

Apply by answering a few written questions about your experience and approach to infrastructure challenges. Use your own words to help us understand your technical thinking and perspective.

If your profile catches our attention, here's what to expect:

  1. Screening interview: A first conversation to discuss your background, motivations, and approach to platform engineering work. We'll explore your experience with infrastructure challenges and how you think about reliability and scalability.

  2. Infrastructure deep-dive: An architecture discussion focused on infrastructure and systems design. We'll explore how you approach real-world operational challenges, balance trade-offs, and think about scaling systems. This is our main technical assessment and often proves decisive.

  3. Product architecture interview: A whiteboard session where we'll discuss the implementation of a new product feature, exploring how you think about technical decisions in a product context and navigate across the stack.

  4. Culture and engineering vision: A discussion with the CTO about our engineering culture, our approach to distributed ownership, and how platform engineering fits into our product development process.
