About the Role
Clutch is hiring an Accounting Manager to step into a functioning accounting operation and drive its next chapter. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will take ownership of the monthly close, our AP/AR workflows, and our audit—and partner with the Head of FP&A to select and implement our next ERP.
We are not looking for someone to stand up accounting from scratch. The close calendar is in place, AP/AR is running, and we just closed out our 2025 audit. What we want is someone who looks at a working operation and asks, “how do we make this the best accounting function in fintech?”—and then builds it through automation, better tooling, and sharper process.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who believes great accounting is a design problem as much as a compliance one. You will co-lead the ERP selection and rollout, identify automation wins across reconciliations, close, and AP/AR, and codify the policies that will carry Clutch through the next several audit cycles. If you are energized by the combination of strong technical accounting and modern tooling—and want to leave a footprint on systems and processes that scale—this is your seat.
About the Team
Our finance team is small, senior, and hands-on. You will report to the VP of Finance and work closely with the Head of FP&A, as well as partners across People and Legal. You will also be supported by our existing bookkeeping and accounting operations resources, who handle much of the transactional work so you can focus on close quality, audit, ERP, and automation. Because the team is lean, you will have direct visibility to the CEO and executive team and real influence over the tools and processes we adopt and the decisions and outcomes we drive.
We take ownership seriously, move fast, and care about the craft of getting the numbers right. We are not looking for someone to maintain the status quo; we are looking for someone who will push the function forward.
What You’ll Do
Within 3 months, you will:
Step into the monthly close, meet the existing calendar, and publish a current-state read on what is clean, what is manual, and where automation will move the needle first
Take ownership of AP/AR from the VP of Finance and identify the top automation opportunities across the stack
Learn our tooling end-to-end—QuickBooks Online, Rippling, Sequence HQ —and form a point of view on ERP requirements
Build relationships with the Head of FP&A, People, Legal, Engineering and map the accounting touchpoints across each of their workflows
Within 6 months, you will:
Partner with the Head of FP&A to complete ERP selection and kick off implementation
Ship the first wave of automation wins—reconciliations, accruals, AP routing—measurably reducing manual effort in close and month-to-month operations
Formalize and document the accounting policies that are currently tribal knowledge (prepaid amortization, fixed assets, materiality thresholds, revenue recognition)
Run a clean, predictable monthly close that the rest of the business trusts and uses
Within 9 months, you will:
Deliver the ERP implementation and a post-migration close that is faster, cleaner, and more automated than what came before
Lead the next audit cycle end-to-end with a well-managed PBC process and a strong auditor relationship
Build the roadmap for the next phase of the function—tooling, headcount, and process—as Clutch continues to scale
Have moved the accounting function toward a best-in-class benchmark in fintech, measured in close speed, audit readiness, and degree of automation
What You’ll Bring
6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a manager or lead role
ERP implementation experience—you have led or been a core driver on at least one ERP selection and go-live
Hands-on ownership of a monthly close process (you have been the one pushing the button, not just a contributor)
Experience running a financial statement audit end-to-end—PBC ownership, auditor relationship, and defending judgment calls
Fluency in modern accounting automation—you seek out tooling that removes manual work rather than adding to it
Strong technical accounting foundation: US GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), equity, and multi-state compliance
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online or comparable ERP, and comfort navigating a modern fintech stack (Rippling, Sequence HQ, Salesforce)
High bar for documentation and process—you write the runbooks so others can follow them
Excellent communication—you can explain accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders without jargon
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Nice to Have
CPA license (or active pursuit)
Big 4 or regional audit firm background
Prior experience at a venture-backed fintech or SaaS startup
Exposure to lending, credit, or regulated financial services
Please note that this role may evolve as our business needs change, so we appreciate your flexibility and adaptability.
