The Institute of Free Technology (IFT) is a mission-driven startup studio that takes privacy-preserving, decentralised technologies from the drawing board to market, providing financial, technical, legal, people operations, and brand-building support along the way. It emerged from Status, founded in 2017 by Jarrad Hope and Carl Bennetts, and was formally launched as the IFT in 2024. Its portfolio includes Status, Logos, Waku, Codex, Nimbus, Nomos, and Keycard, built by 200+ contributors distributed across the globe.
